Welcome to Vallejo

Vallejo: The City of Promise

The largest city in Solano County, Vallejo is in the San Francisco bay area on San Pablo Bay’s northeastern shore. The ethnically-diverse city is named for General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo and has twice briefly served as the capital of California, once in 1852, and again in 1853. The Mare Island Naval Shipyard, once an important shipping and naval center, was built here in 1854. Closed in 1996, it is poised to become a residential, commercial, and industrial complex.
